FAQ What is paintball? Paintball is recognized as a sport. It is even being televised on ESPN. In it's purest form, I would describe paintball as being a hi-tech form of dodge ball. If you get hit, your out and play continues until one side is eliminated.
How safe is paintball? Believe it or not, paintball is statistically safer than bowling. (Generally, an older crowd bowls and a much younger crowd play paintball.) However, paintball played outside an organized field (private games held on private property) is not nearly as safe. Most accidents in paintball happen at these private games. The primary reason is they to not adhere to standard safety rules. For example, the velocity of each paintball marker should be checked before they are allowed to play because a marker shooting at to high of a velocity can seriously hurt someone. It needs to be checked every time they play because the velocity changes with temperature. Here, at Battle Creek, we not only enforce the standard safety rules, we have set a much higher bar for ourselves than the industry standards. Additionally, we have referees on the fields at all times to ensure that everyone plays in a safe manner.
What safety equipment is needed to play? An industry approved goggle system is the only required equipment. However, we strongly advise athletic cups and throat protectors. Some players like to wear chest protectors as well.
How old do you need to be to play paintball? You must be at least 10 years old to play but you must be at least 12 years old to play in our events. Also, we strongly suggest that you be at least 12 for open play. We strongly recommend that 10 and 11 year old children play during private party sessions only, ie a private birthday party. Please note: everyone must fill out a waiver to play and a parent or guardian must sign it too if the player is under 18 years old.
What should I wear? We strongly suggest that everyone wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, and sensible shoes. Also, you should not wear orange so not to be confused with the referees who wear orange.
Will the paint wash out? Not all paint will wash out. However, the paintballs that we use at Battle Creek will wash out provided you don’t leave them in the hamper for a few days. The stains may set in if you do. Also, our paintballs are biodegradable.
